About

The Master's Program in Chemical Education at Gorontalo State University (UNG) is a graduate program launched on June 6, 2023, and began operating in July 2023. The vision of this program is to develop chemical education based on ethno-STEM with innovative and competitive approaches. This approach combines science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) with local values to create innovative products based on local culture. The main objective is for graduates to produce learning products that integrate pedagogical technology and digital literacy, as well as enhance entrepreneurship capacity based on technology.

With this vision, the Master's Program in Chemical Education at UNG reflects a strong distinctiveness, setting it apart from similar programs at other universities in Indonesia. The ethno-STEM approach promoted by this program is highly relevant to the development of science, technology, and arts (IPTEKS) as well as community needs, especially in Southeast Asia. This is also aligned with the development direction of Gorontalo State University, which aims to position itself as the "Leading University in the Development of Culture and Innovation Based on Regional Potential in Southeast Asia" by 2035.

This program also focuses on the development of academic quality, graduate competitiveness, and the performance of the tridharma (teaching, research, and community service) based on local excellence, supporting the achievement of the vision of Gorontalo State University in the UNG Master Plan for Development (RIP) 2010–2035. In the UNG Postgraduate Strategic Plan 2020–2024, this program is responsible for strengthening its contribution to regional development based on leading research and quality human resources.

The program is supported by six Professors and three Senior Lecturers who are experts in various fields of chemistry. These Professors include Prof. Dr. Astin Lukum, an expert in Chemical Education Evaluation, Prof. Dr. Ishak Isa, an authority in Analytical Chemistry, Prof. Dr. Weny J.A. Musa in Organic Chemistry, and Prof. Dr. Netty Ino Ischak, specializing in Medical Biochemistry. In addition, there are Prof. Dr. Lukman A.R. Laliyo, focusing on Chemical Education Technology, and Prof. Dr. Akram La Kilo, an expert in Inorganic Chemistry. Their expertise is not only deep but also contributes significantly to the development of chemistry research and education at UNG, providing a positive impact on the advancement of science at both national and international levels.

Meanwhile, three Senior Lecturers in the Chemistry Program at UNG also make significant contributions in their areas of expertise, including Food Biochemistry, Chemical Education, and Medicinal Chemistry. Dr. Yuszda K. Salimi, Dr. Masrid Pikoli, and Dr. La Ode Aman continue to develop research that addresses community needs, such as improving food quality through biochemistry, innovations in chemistry teaching methods, and the development of medicinal compounds for health applications. The presence of these lecturers is a key strength in shaping students who are not only intelligent but also ready to contribute to the industry and research world with an approach based on the latest scientific knowledge.
